On GitHub: Git Source Code Mirror - This is a publish-only repository but pull requests can be turned into patches to the mailing list via GitGitGadget (https://gitgitgadget.github.io/). Please follow Documentation/SubmittingPatches procedure for any of your improvements.

Open on GitHub

This is a read-only mirror of the Git project’s source code. Git’s development does not happen through GitHub pull requests: patches are sent to and reviewed on the Git mailing list, and the maintainer publishes the result here. The repository’s README and its Documentation/SubmittingPatches file explain that process.

For everyday users, the most useful folder is Documentation/. It holds the sources of every manual page you see with git help, plus the release notes for each version, which are the best place to find out what changed when a new Git comes out.

Browsing the history of this repository is also a good way to practice the commands you are learning: git log --oneline --graph, git blame, and git log -S all work well on a large, long-lived project.
