Terms of use
Commitpedia is an open encyclopedia of code and IT systems, written and corrected by its readers. These terms apply to everyone who reads, writes or edits on commitpedia.com.
Reading
You can read everything without an account. Articles, scripts and tutorials are written by volunteers and may contain mistakes. Check important information against the official documentation linked on each page.
Running code
Scripts and commands are provided as they are, without any warranty. Read every line before you run it, test it on a machine you can afford to break, and keep backups. Pages with code say whether a trusted editor has checked the current version.
Accounts and editing
- You are responsible for what you do with your account. Keep your password private.
- New contributors’ edits are reviewed by trusted editors before they appear. After several accepted edits you may be made a trusted editor yourself.
- Every edit is kept in the public history of the entry, together with your display name.
What you may add
- Explanations, scripts and repository links you wrote yourself or are allowed to share.
- Code from elsewhere only when its licence allows it, with credit and a link to the source.
What is not allowed
- Malware, hidden commands, or scripts that do something other than what the entry says.
- Spam, advertising, or links added only for search ranking.
- Personal data about other people, real passwords, keys or internal addresses of real systems.
- Harassment, hate, or anything illegal.
Licence of your contributions
By saving an edit you agree to publish your text under CC BY-SA 4.0 and your code under the MIT licence, unless the entry names a different licence for its code. You confirm you have the right to do so. See the Licence page.
Moderation
Trusted editors may decline, change or remove content and may restore earlier versions. Accounts that break these terms may be blocked.
Advertising
Commitpedia may show ads to cover its running costs. Ads come from Google and are not endorsements. See the Advertising page.
Liability
Commitpedia is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, the operator (Dominik Kusý) is not liable for damage caused by using information or code from the site.
Reports, takedowns and contact
Use the “Report a problem” form on any entry, or write to [email protected]. If content infringes your rights, tell us which page and why, and we will look at it promptly.
Changes
These terms may change as the site grows. The date of the last change is shown on this page.
