On GitHub: Ansible is a radically simple IT automation platform that makes your applications and systems easier to deploy and maintain. Automate everything from code deployment to network configuration to cloud management, in a language that approaches plain English, using SSH, with no agents to install on remote systems. https://docs.ansible.com.

This repository contains ansible-core: the command-line tools (ansible, ansible-playbook, ansible-vault, ansible-galaxy, ansible-inventory and others), the execution engine, and the ansible.builtin modules and plugins. It is written in Python and connects to managed nodes over SSH, so nothing has to be installed on them beyond Python.

The ansible package you install with pipx install --include-deps ansible bundles ansible-core with a curated set of community collections; installing ansible-core alone gives just the engine. Most modules for specific products (clouds, network devices, databases) live in separate collection repositories, not here.

Look here for release notes, the changelog and bug reports about the core engine. Questions about using a specific module usually belong to that module’s collection.
