On GitHub: Promise based HTTP client for the browser and node.js

Open on GitHub

Axios is one of the most widely used HTTP client libraries in JavaScript. It offers the same API in the browser and in Node, parses JSON responses automatically, and, unlike fetch, rejects the promise for non-2xx status codes by default.

Its most popular features are instances with a shared base URL and headers (axios.create()), interceptors for adding auth tokens or logging to every request, built-in timeouts, and cancellation through AbortController. The README covers configuration options and error handling in detail.

Since fetch is now built into Node 18+ and all modern browsers, many projects no longer need an HTTP library. Axios remains a reasonable choice when you want interceptors and a uniform error shape across a large codebase, or when you maintain code that already depends on it.
