Netdata: real-time, per-second monitoring with zero configuration
The Netdata repository: an agent that auto-discovers hundreds of metrics on Linux hosts, containers and common services, shows them per second in a built-in dashboard and ships with preconfigured alerts.
Drafted with AI from official documentation. Scripts were run in a test environment and repository links verified. Awaiting a human check. Did it work for you? Last edited Outdated?

On GitHub: The fastest path to AI-powered full stack observability, even for lean teams.
Open on GitHubNetdata (about 81,000 stars on GitHub) is an open source monitoring agent developed by Netdata Inc. and a large community, with the agent under GPL-3.0. Install it on a host and within a minute you get a web dashboard on port 19999 with per-second charts for CPU, memory, disks, network, every systemd service, and any detected application such as nginx, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Docker containers or Proxmox, plus hundreds of ready-made alert thresholds.
It fills a different niche than Prometheus and Grafana: Netdata is for looking at one host right now in great detail with no setup, which makes it excellent for troubleshooting a misbehaving server or a home lab. For long-term storage and cross-host dashboards you can keep both, because Netdata exposes its metrics in Prometheus format at /api/v1/allmetrics?format=prometheus and can stream to a parent Netdata node.
The official one-line installer detects the distribution and installs native packages where available:
Check before you run this
- Runs with administrator rights. Make sure you understand every line.
wget -O /tmp/netdata-kickstart.sh https://get.netdata.cloud/kickstart.sh && sh /tmp/netdata-kickstart.sh
sudo systemctl status netdata
curl -s http://localhost:19999/api/v1/info | head -c 300
Read the script before running it if you prefer, or install from the repository’s release packages. Open http://host:19999 and the dashboard appears without a login; restrict access with a firewall or a reverse proxy before exposing it. The installer offers to connect the agent to Netdata Cloud, which is optional; the agent works fully standalone. Configuration lives in /etc/netdata, edited with sudo /etc/netdata/edit-config netdata.conf. Credit to the Netdata team and contributors.
