Open on GitHubThis is where MongoDB Inc. develops the database server itself: the mongod storage and query engine, the mongos router for sharded clusters, replication and the server test suites. The shell (mongosh) and the Database Tools such as mongodump live in separate repositories.
Most users install packaged builds from MongoDB’s repositories rather than compiling from source. The repository is still useful for reading release notes in context, following how a feature or bug fix was implemented, and finding build instructions.
Bugs are reported in MongoDB’s JIRA issue tracker rather than in GitHub issues; the README links to the bug-report guide on the project wiki. Ready-made server packages and the separate MongoDB Shell download are linked from the README as well.
