On GitHub: Official source of container configurations, images, and examples for Oracle products and projects

Open on GitHub

This repository is Oracle’s official source of container configurations for its products. For learning and testing Oracle Database, the interesting part is OracleDatabase/SingleInstance: Dockerfiles plus a buildContainerImage.sh helper that checks the install files and builds an image for a chosen version and edition, such as 19c Enterprise Edition, 21c Express Edition or the current Free edition.

Most editions require you to download the installation binaries from Oracle yourself and place them next to the Dockerfile; the README lists which editions do not. Running containers expose the listener on port 1521, take the initial SYS/SYSTEM/PDBADMIN password from ORACLE_PWD (generated if not set), and keep data in /opt/oracle/oradata, which you should mount as a volume so the database survives container recreation.

This is a convenient way to get a disposable CDB with a PDB for practising SQL*Plus, RMAN and Data Pump. Check Oracle’s licensing for the edition you build before using it beyond development.
